WHAT IS AN EXECUTIVE COACH?

An executive coach is a seasoned advisor who builds leadership capabilities through personalized assessment, training, and hands-on practice. They observe executives in action, pinpoint development areas, and provide frameworks, tools, and advice to expand critical skills around communication, strategic thinking, managing teams, driving change, and more. Through 1:1 and group coaching, they accelerate a leader's growth trajectory. Executive coaches dive deep into understanding a leader's strengths, blindspots, and development areas through 360 reviews, personality assessments, stakeholder interviews, and observation. They use this insight to design focused development plans that expand skills and self-awareness. Coaching moves rapidly by providing real-time feedback, injecting new perspectives, and keeping leaders accountable to change.

WHAT ARE SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AN EXECUTIVE COACH AND A BUSINESS COACH?

While business coaches look at optimizing company-wide strategy, process and operations, executive coaches focus specifically on cultivating an individual leader's skills and self-awareness. Business coaching takes a wide lens on the organization, while executive coaching zooms in on maximizing personal leadership ability through behavioral change. Executive coaching expands emotional intelligence, strategic agility, communication styles and other leadership competencies. Business coaching examines structure, systems, and overall performance. Both coaching approaches accelerate growth, but executive coaching works one-on-one to unlock human potential while business coaching unlocks organizational potential. They complement each other.

WHAT LEADERSHIP SKILLS DOES AN EXECUTIVE COACH HAVE?

As an executive coach, I have over 24 years experience across communication, strategic planning, leading teams, organizational dynamics, and other core leadership capabilities. This range is crucial because executive skills are complex, integrated and contextual. I've led companies and teams through volatile times that demanded resilience, flexibility and conflict resolution. My own leadership journey allows me to quickly diagnose development gaps and design custom programs that build the exact skills each leader requires based on their role, personality and growth goals. My coaching expands self-awareness and skills from the c-suite to emerging leaders by challenging assumptions and providing fresh perspectives. I've walked in my clients' shoes which brings credibility.

WHAT ARE SOME COMMUNICATION SKILLS AN EXECUTIVE COACH TEACHES?

Exceptional executive communication is an area I specialize in. From public speaking to active listening, I coach leaders on fine-tuning messaging, reading body language and non-verbal cues, calibrating tone, vocabulary and delivery for any audience, resolving conflicts, providing constructive feedback, interviewing techniques, presentation design, storytelling and impactful email communications. We tune both the inner game of intention, empathy and connection as well as the outer game of verbal and non-verbal techniques. Communication is foundational to leadership influence so we thoroughly assess and build communication across the spectrum - one-on-one, small group, company-wide, media interviews - while aligning authentic style.

CAN AN EXECUTIVE COACH HELP WITH SKILL-BUILDING?

Absolutely. An executive coach like myself goes far beyond advice to specifically build capabilities through training and hands-on practice. I provide frameworks, actionable tools, realplay scenarios and role modeling to hone strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, time management, building trust, negotiation, decision making, and other critical executive skills tailored to each client’s role and needs. Coaching instills new leadership habits through repetition, not just intellectually understanding the concepts. We interweave theory, case studies, simulations, exercises, assignments, and continued accountability to drive behavioral change until new skills become automatic. As your advisor and thought partner, I challenge ineffective status quo leadership approaches and expand your toolkit to bring out excellence.
